🎵 What Happens in an Individual Music Therapy Session?
In an individual session, a board-certified music therapist uses music-based interventions tailored to meet the unique needs, goals, and strengths of each client. Sessions are personalized and can include:
-
Singing and Vocalization – To support speech, communication, or emotional expression.
-
Instrument Play – Using drums, guitars, keyboards, and more to improve motor coordination, sensory integration, and engagement.
-
Movement to Music – Encouraging physical activity, rhythm, and body awareness through fun and interactive musical movement.
-
Songwriting and Lyric Analysis – Helping clients process emotions, tell their stories, and build confidence.
-
Receptive Listening – Creating a calming or motivating space for emotional regulation and relaxation.
-
Communication Support – Using music as a tool to support verbal and nonverbal communication, including AAC device integration when appropriate.
-
Social-Emotional Learning – Building trust, confidence, and emotional awareness in a safe and encouraging environment.
Each session is guided by clinical goals, data-informed progress tracking, and a whole-person approach to care. Whether working on developmental milestones, emotional regulation, or motor coordination, music therapy meets clients where they are—through the joy and connection of music.
🎶 What Happens in a Group Music Therapy Session?

Led by a board-certified music therapist, group sessions are structured to support social interaction, emotional expression, communication, and community-building—all through the power of music.
Sessions may include:
-
Group Singing & Call-and-Response – Encouraging communication, turn-taking, and social bonding.
-
Instrument Ensembles – Playing together in rhythm promotes teamwork, motor skills, and active listening.
-
Movement & Dance Activities – Promoting physical engagement and self-expression in a supportive group setting.

Musical Games & Improvisation – Strengthening cognitive skills, creativity, and emotional regulation through playful exploration.
-
Collaborative Songwriting – Fostering group cohesion and giving participants a collective voice to share their experiences.
